My buddy had been using that old Mac for so long he is locked into the way iPhoto handled his photos. Lots of times I have a lot of photos on the camera and I might want them in different folders, all sorted out. Yeah, I personally can't see using a program like Pix or any other to transfer photos from my camera to my hard drive. What I need to know from somebody that uses these apps is if there is something very similar to iPhoto that handles complete photo management that he can use. I know there are several good photo management apps like Fotoxx, Digicam, Shotwell, gThumb and others. I have never used any app on Linux that does what he says iPhoto does. I then go on and open Gimp to edit any photos I think are worth the effort. the photos to whatever directory I want them saved in. I take the memory card out of the camera, pop it into the card reader, then copy/paste, or cut/paste. I can't help him because of the way I handle photos. He wants to be able to do the same thing with an app in Mint. He tells me that with his Mac he simply plugged the camera in, iPhoto popped open, and he was able to either save the photo to the hard drive or send it in an email with one click. Right now his biggest complaint is with handing photos from his camera. I was happy to load the laptop for him and send it back to him.

He used the same Mac for over 11 years and his reason for asking me to install Linux on a laptop he got his hands on was that he was no longer able to upgrade the Mac with new software or security updates. So far he loves Mint, but there is one small problem I can't help him with. This was done long distance by him sending me his laptop, me installing Mint, then sending the laptop back to him. I converted a Mac user to a laptop with Linux Mint 20.2 XFCE. Hopefully somebody can help me with this situation I have.
